This is the country so wonderfully described by Mari Sandoz in her books about "Old Jules" and "Crazy Horse, the Strange Man of the Oglallas."  Mari's grave site is located just south of Gordon near the orchards planted by her father.  The scenic Niobrara river where Jules homesteaded is also near Gordon.  All of Mari's books are available as well as a few other books about the area.
